“Home when Away” is a family-run business. I am also an education advisor, having spent many years as a Secondary Science Teacher and School Leader. My husband, Mat, is an engineer specializing in off-highway machinery design.
As a family, we love our sport and are never happier than when we are out on our bikes or playing tennis (our son happens to be very good!).
We made the decision to set up “Home when Away” when we spotted some notable gaps in the market: Firstly, the difficulty of booking and staying in hotel rooms with a young family, and secondly, the high cost of hotels when working away from home for more than a few days.
Combine this with the lack of creature comforts, freedom, and flexibility when staying in hotels, and we realized that there was a need for “holiday homes” in locations that are not usually considered as “holiday areas“.
All properties have been furnished to a high standard (we both agree that we have to want to stay in them ourselves!) and with consideration given to the needs of families, travellers, and workers alike. With this in mind, we ensure that the beds are comfortable, the kitchens are well-equipped, and the houses are professionally cleaned by our excellent team (Kerry’s Cleaning Service).
All linen and towels are provided, and each house has an area that is suitable for home-working. We strive hard to make sure our houses are exactly what people need, but we are always listening to suggestions and comments from guests to ensure we maintain and improve upon our high standards.
Our homes are advertised on Booking.com, Airbnb, Vrbo, and Comfy Workers, who all charge a commission. We are able to offer discounts to those who book directly with us as we do not have to pay these additional charges.
